AmaWaterways, having pioneered Wine River Cruising. kicks off the 2012 season on March 25 with a President's Rhone Wine River Cruise aboard the luxurious MS AmaDagio, the first of many Rhone Wine Cruises, hosted by AmaWaterways' Execs Rudi Schreiner, President and Co-Owner, and Kristin Karst, Executive VP and Co-Owner. The Rhone River "In Celebration of Wine" debut cruise on the MS AmaDagio, one of 14 state-of-the-art river cruise ships operated by AmaWateways throughout Europe, in Russia, on the Mekong River between Vietnam and Cambodia and in Africa, is part of a 15-day Provence and Spain itinerary that includes 3 nights in Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain, before and after the river cruise respectively.

The featured wine hosts are Carissa Chappellet, Owner and Managing Director of Chappellet Winery and Archie McLaren, Founder and Chairman of Central Coast Wine Classic, who will give lectures, conduct tours of local European vineyards, supervise wine tastings and mingle with the passengers. "The AmaWaterways Rhone wine cruises feature the world's most popular regions and wine makers in Europe, and this gives our guests the opportunity to celebrate and participate in the ancient Beaujolais wine culture in a fascinating manner," says Rudi Schreiner.

In 2011, AmaWaterways ran six highly-successful Wine River Cruises throughout Europe that included such wine industry luminaries as Barry Wiss of Trinchero Wineries, Anthony Dias Blue, Editor-in-Chief of The Tasting Panel, Teri Rolleri of the Ferrari-Carano Vineyards, Christopher Silva, CEO of St. Francis Winery Vineyards, Samantha Ford Collins, Senior Educator of Sterling Vineyards, Jilly Goolden, British Wine Critic and Stefen Soltysiak of Rodney Strong Vineyards and Christopher Sawyer, an internationally renowned sommelier, wine journalist and educator.

Aside from the March debut cruise on the Rhone, a majority of the scheduled AmaWaterways "In Celebration of Wine River Cruises" will take place in October and November, see dates below, and also include programs on the Rhine and Danube Rivers. These special sailings feature exclusive wine-themed excursions, such as a traditional "Heuriger" tasting of new wine in the villages of Grinzing and Neustift on the outskirts of Vienna; an introduction to Alsatian wines at the "Wunsch et Mann" winery in Wettolsheim and an unforgettable "Oktoberfest" in the village of Vilshofen created specifically for the guests.
